A little bit of history about the graduating
classes of 1957
Fort Vancouver and Hudson's Bay High Schools

The school year began for this group of 631 Sophomores in September 1954 at the
Vancouver High School. At year's end they were recognized as a valuable asset to the
student body having successfully conducted the Homecoming pep rally, led a huge
parade on November 5th through the streets of Vancouver during school hours with a
large percentage of the students participating, held after game dances, programs and
cake sales resulting in funds for the treasury. Then in January there was the annual
informal party and "Showboat" with elaborate decorations was the theme for the
springtime event. During this year the Trappers won the Football Championship
and beat rival, Longview, to go to the State Basketball Tournament.

This was also the last year that Vancouver High School would be the one "big" school
in Vancouver. The largest senior class to graduate from Vancouver High School was in
June 1955 and change was about to happen. A new school was under construction.

On February 3rd, 1956 the big day had arrived and the new
school was ready for occupancy and the separation of one
large happy family into two friendly cross-town rivals.

Vancouver High School received the new name of Fort
Vancouver High School and remained the "Trappers" with
William Lothspeich as Principal. The new school was
named Hudson's Bay High School and were now the "Eagles"
with Eldon Boyd as their first Principal. The Trappers had the
school colors of red and white while the Eagles selected the
school colors of white and McLaughlin plaid.
